Tyger Forge

Hand crafted belt buckles

Tyger Forge historic and original custom designs are hand-wrought one-at-a-time by village metalsmithy Mark Goodwin.  He uses traditional hand tools to cut, shape, and solder the finest solid metals.  Even the rivets are hand formed.  You will not find his signature cone-head rivets anywhere else.  Each creation incorporates a warm mix of metals finished with the hand-rubbed natural color of the metal.  If you want something unique and hand-made, these buckles are for you.  They are perfect for either Highland dress or for reenactment.

These buckles are simple, strong, and functional.  And each creation is made with the intention that it should become a cherished and enduring possession that will be passed on to generations to come.  As these are individually handcrafted items, some minor variations can be expected in each unique piece.

Each style of buckle can be made with a combination of brass, copper, pewter and sterling silver metals.  Images are meant to be representative.  Any style can be made from any of the listed metals.  These buckles are made to fit on standard 2.25" or 2.5" kilt belts.  Made in USA.  Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.  Call about our current stock for rush order.

Cross Pattee This cross is often associated with Crusaders and the Crusades.  The heraldic cross pattee was used by two Crusader orders: the Teutonic Knights and the Knights Templar who adopted a red cross on their white robes in 1147.

Labyrinth of Jericho Labyrinths are symbolic forms of pilgrimage; people walk the path, ascending toward salvation or enlightenment.  Many people could not afford to travel to holy sites and lands, so labyrinths and prayer substituted for such travel.

Chi Rho  The Chi Rho is one of the earliest christograms. It is formed by superimposing the first two letters in the Greek spelling of the word Christ (Greek "Χριστός" ), chi = ch and rho = r). Many believe that the Chi Rho symbol is the actual origin of the Celtic Cross. Early stone carvings in Scotland and Ireland that show the Chi Rho formed with the Chi (X) in the upper circle of the Rho (P), which if you just tilt the top of the Rho to the left a bit, gives you a perfect Celtic Cross. The Chi Rho invokes the crucifixion of Jesus as well as symbolizing his status as the Christ.

Chi Rho with Alpha & Omega  The Chi Rho is one of the earliest christograms. It is formed by superimposing the first two letters in the Greek spelling of the word Christ (Greek "Χριστός" ), chi = ch and rho = r). Early stone carvings in Scotland and Ireland that show the Chi Rho formed with the Chi (X) in the upper circle of the Rho (P), which if you just tilt the top of the Rho to the left a bit, gives you a perfect Celtic Cross. The Alpha & Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek Alphabet, symbolizing Christ as the beginning and end of all things.

“I do not prize the word 'cheap.' It is not a badge of honor. It is a symbol of despair. Cheap prices make for cheap goods; cheap goods make for cheap men; and cheap men make for a cheap country.” -- Wm. McKinley, 25th President of the United States, Scottish descendant.
