You've been asking for them... we are now very proud to offer made-to-measure tartan trews through our museum gift shop. With four styles available, we are sure to have the trews to fit your needs. The original tartan trews (Gaelic truibhs) were tight pants and cut on the bias. Modern trews are cut more like trousers, with certain stylistic elements adapted to Highland Dress. Traditionally, Lowland Scottish regiments have worn trews with their No. 1, mess and full dress uniforms. The new Royal Scottish Regiment continues to wear trews in certain orders of dress. You can order your trews from the Scottish Tartans Museum in four different styles: Standard Trousers: Standard "1 pleat" trousers made from tartan cloth. Argyle: Trews cut with a high waist to wear with a kilt belt and Argyle style jacket. (pictured right) Fishtail: Trews cut with a very high "fishtail" style waist for wear with a Prince Charlie jacket. Military: Fishtail style trews made in the traditional military fashion with no outside seams.
As these are each made-to-measure we will need to know not only the tartan you choose, but also your waist, hip, and inseam measurements, in that order (ex. 36/42/30). These trews are available in any tartan from Lochcarron of Scotland's 13 oz range (click here), in any measurement up to 44" waist or hip (whichever is largest). If your measurements are larger, please call for a price quote.

“I do not prize the word 'cheap.' It is not a badge of honor. It is a symbol of despair. Cheap prices make for cheap goods; cheap goods make for cheap men; and cheap men make for a cheap country.” -- Wm. McKinley, 25th President of the United States, Scottish descendant.
