In 1961 C. R. MacKinnon of Dunakin wrote in Tartans and Highland Dress of wearing the kilt in the tropics. "The idea that the kilt is not suitable for wear in tropical countries is absurd," he writes, "for it is almost always more comfortable than trousers." He then recommends a local tailor make up a doublet or coatee from "white linen or sharkskin" as an alternative to heavy weight wool.

We ask for height and weight to get a good idea of your body type. Please provide specific measurements for chest, sleeve length, and jacket length.
Chest: Measure around your chest at the widest point (around both nipples)
Sleeve: Place the measuring tape where the shoulder seams meet the sleeve. Measure along the arm to the start of the thumb.
Jacket: Lift your shirt collar. Place the measuring tape where the shoulder seams meet the neck. Measure vertically down your front (above the stomach) until where you want the jacket to end - the standard measurement is usually near where the stitching ends on your kilt pleats (at the hips).
If your body type requires more specific measurements please let us know by email or phone, or include this information in the "optional instructions" field when you check out. For example, if you have broad shoulders, it would help to know a shoulder measurement. If your stomache is larger than your chest, it would be good to know a stomache measurement. Each jacket is made to the measurements you provide so please be as accurate as possible when you order.
