Hand Knit

Highland Bonnets

Looking for a quality, hand knit Highland bonnet made to authentic historical standards?  Look no further.  These Scottish Tartans Museum exclusive Highland bonnets are made from 100% wool, each containing approximately 10,000 stitches, knit and felt entirely by hand.  They are based on peat bog finds from Huntsgarth, Orkney and Arnish Moor, Isle of Lewis, as well as the period artwork of, among others, Richard Ansdell. These bonnets are very nearly waterproof, are warm in the winter, and breathable for the summer months.

The bonnet crown has a diameter of approximately 12" and a one-size-fits-all construction, with the size adjustable by an internal hand braided drawstring.

Available in seven different colors, each bonnet is individually hand crafted.  If you have a special request, please let us know.  We'll let you know if we can do it and how much it will cost.

Made in USA.  Custom order item, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.

“I do not prize the word 'cheap.' It is not a badge of honor. It is a symbol of despair. Cheap prices make for cheap goods; cheap goods make for cheap men; and cheap men make for a cheap country.” -- Wm. McKinley, 25th President of the United States, Scottish descendant.
