FULL 8 YARD KILTS

The standard kilt, and epitome of Highland Dress for the gentleman.  Knife pleated, either to sett or stripe, in the tartan of your choosing.  All tailoring is done completely by hand.  These kilts are made in Scotland, from 100% worsted wool kilting cloth.

The prices below are accurate for most tartans.  We always recommend purchasing the heaviest available weight that is within your budget.  We can have your kilt made in just about any tartan!  If you don't see it, just ask us.  We can usually find it for you.

To place your order begin by selecting which weight range you desire.  Please pay attention to the available tartans shown in your chosen weight range.  Indicate the tartan you desire in the order blank, and order according to the size range of your waist or hips (whichever is larger).  To complete the order, we will need to know your waist, hip, and length measurements, taken according to the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Once your order request is received by us, we will contact you by phone or email to confirm the tartan availability, your measurements, and pleating preference.  Please feel free to call us to discuss the specifics of your kilt so that we can quote you an exact price.

Please allow 8 to 12 weeks for delivery.  Rush delivery may be available at an additional cost, dependant upon cloth availability.

To complete your order, we will need the following information from you:

  • Your desired tartan -- this is most important!

  • The style of kilt you are choosing

  • The desired weight of your cloth

  • Your waist measurement, taken at your natural waist (just above your naval), snug

  • Your hip measurement, taken at the widest part of your seat, loose

  • The length of your kilt. Have someone else measure down the side of your hip from 2" above your natural waist (where you took the first measurement) down to the top of your kneecap.  You may add or subtract about an inch, if you prefer a longer or shorter kilt, but stay within this range.

  • Double take all measurements. We will have your kilt made to the measurements you provide. We cannot be responsible if the measurements you give us are not correct.

  • Give us your height and weight. This helps in double-checking your measurements.

  • Do you want your kilt pleated to sett or stripe? Pleating to the sett is most common today, and means the pattern of the tartan is reproduced in the pleats. Pleating to stripe, also called pleating to the line, or regimental pleating, is common in the military and pipe bands, but also looks good for civilian use. This is where a particular stripe from your tartan is centered on each pleat. Depending on what stripe is chosen, this can have different effects. Normally, we can pleat your kilt to whatever stripe you specify.

  • Do you have a deadline? Kilts normally take 8 to 12 weeks to have made and delivered. Sometimes this can be longer if the cloth is out of stock, but you will be notified.  We can sometimes deliver sooner than this, granted that cloth is in stock.  A rush fee of $75 will apply.

Of course, if you have any other questions, you are welcome to contact us. The staff of the Scottish Tartans Museum gift shop is happy to answer any questions about your kilt.

“I do not prize the word 'cheap.' It is not a badge of honor. It is a symbol of despair. Cheap prices make for cheap goods; cheap goods make for cheap men; and cheap men make for a cheap country.” -- Wm. McKinley, 25th President of the United States, Scottish descendant.
