Guide to our kilt hose

We offer a very wide range of kilt hose for your Highland wardrobe, and with over 80 style and color options (this doesn't even count our many custom options) it can get quite confusing!  This hand guide is meant to give the quick details of our many different hose ranges.

Note for the beginning kilt wearer: Many people agonize over selecting the "right" color hose to go with their kilt.  Don't worry about it too much.  You will likely end up with several pairs of hose over time.  In fact, having different hose to choose from is one quick and easy way to create different looks with the same kilt.  Our advice for the beginner is to purchase two pairs of hose, one each in a light and dark solid color.  This will suffice for many occasions and over time you can add to your hose selection as needed.

Note about care instructions:  Our kilt hose will either be "machine washable" or "hand wash only."  Machine washable hose can be washed in cool water on the gentle/delicate cycle.  Hand wash only hose should be hand washed in cool water with gentle soap.  In either case the hose should be allowed to air dry.  Never put your kilt hose in the dryer!

Let's start at the bottom and work our way up...

Acrylic Hose:  These are the least expensive hose we offer and are great for those on a tight budget.  They are a wool/acrylic blend and are available in only one color -- ecru/cream.  Machine washable.  Only $19.95.

Standard Kilt Hose: These are good quality kilt hose made in the typical hose style.  They are an 80% wool content and available in seven colors -- ecru, black, oatmeal, and two shades of blue and green.  A great starter hose, and a staple in most Highland wardrobes.  Machine washable.  $27.95.

Piper's Hose:  These hose are made extra-long allowing you to fold the cuff over multiple times for a really thick looking hose.  As the name implies, this style is popular among pipers, but can be worn by anyone.  Wool blend, with the wool content varying depending on color choice.  Available in nine colors, including pure white.  Machine washable.  $34.95.

Lewis Kilt Hose:  These hose are a real treat for your feet.  These are available in eighteen different colors, giving you the widest range of any solid-color hose option.  They are made from a soft merino wool blend that is easy to care for and comfortable to wear.  Since hose normally wear out first in the heel and toe, these are made with a special reinforced foot to add to the life of the sock.  These hose also feature a very nice looking cable pattern on the cuff.    If you want a step-up from the standard hose these are the perfect choice.  Machine washable.  Wide calf version available.  $48.00

Specialty Hose:  These are made by the same sock mill in Hawick that makes our Lewis hose, and feature the same merino wool blend, high quality sock.  These hose feature multicolor cuffs in four different styles, each with a variety of standard color options.  These are the "shooting socks" that HRH Prince Charles, the Duke of Rothesay, is commonly seen wearing with his kilt.  Machine washable.  Each pair ships with coordinating garters.  A great deal at $55.00.

Royal Cuff Kilt Hose:  These are made with a fancy cuff, like the specialty hose above, but these cuffs are hand knit in high quality 100% super-wash wool and so are completely customizable.  You select your colors to match your tartan.  The cuffs are then attached to the same sock as the Lewis hose.  Several patterns to choose from.  Machine washable.  Prices start at $110.

Argyle and Diced Hose:  These 100% wool hose are each individually custom made (and so can be ordered to fit any sized foot or calf).  The yarns are hand dyed to match the colors of your tartan.  A sample of your tartan is required for the order (it will be returned to you along with your hose).  Argyle or diced hose are the epitome for formal dress, and a great way to add a splash of style to a daywear outfit, as well.  Hand wash only.  Prices start at $110.

Hawick Argyle & Diced Hose:  We can also supply argyle and diced hose from Hawick, Scotland.  These combine the look of the argyle or diced hose with the quality and comfort of the merino wool blend.  Machine washable.  Stock colors and patterns begin at $140, with custom orders available for $250.
