How to tie traditional garters...

There are multiple ways to tie your traditional garters. The video above shows our preferred method, which we have found to be very effective over long term wear and usage.  The instructions below show an alternate method.

Alternate Instructions:

Begin by placing one end of the garter where you would like it to fall on the outside of your leg.  (It is traditional to wear the garters slightly to the front of the side, so they can be clearly seen from a front view of the wearer).  Wrap the long end of the garter tightly around the back of the leg.  You want to position the garter just underneath the bend in the knee.
Keeping good tension, wrap the long end of the garter around the leg, so that it crosses over the short end that you are holding in place.
Continue wrapping the long end of the garter around the back of the leg a second time, to meet the short end, which is now being held securely in place by the garter itself.
You now want to tuck the end of the garter underneath the part of the garter that is wrapping around the leg.
You will end up with something looking like this.  The tension of the garter should be enough to keep itself in place, and your kilt hose up.  You should not feel any tightness around your leg.

You may need to adjust the positioning of the garter ends to get them to hang evenly.

Fold the top of your hose down to cover the garter, revealing only the lower edges for color.  Depending on the height and design of your kilt hose, you may need to fold the top down once or twice.  What is important is that the ends of the garters remain visible.

“I do not prize the word 'cheap.' It is not a badge of honor. It is a symbol of despair. Cheap prices make for cheap goods; cheap goods make for cheap men; and cheap men make for a cheap country.” -- Wm. McKinley, 25th President of the United States, Scottish descendant.
